My Story

This is the Official Fundraising Platform for Master Sergeant Hector Trujillo.

I have known Master Sergeant Hector Trujillo since 1993 and consider him my brother. He is a United States Marine stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He is married to Maria Trujillo and is a father of three wonderful children: Anthony, Adam, and Amber. He is a good Christian man always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. On Friday, at 05:00 am, he was headed to work to PT with his Marines. As he was driving on the expressway, he witnessed an accident. He could have ignored it and continued on his way to work, but he didn’t do that. Instead, he followed his heart and he pulled over to assist. As he grabbed a local Japanese man to get him out of the way, he was hit by a car. He suffered a skull fracture and neck & spine injuries. The full extent of his injuries is unknown at this time. He has been placed in a medically induced coma. He was transported from Japan to the United States where he is currently receiving medical care at Naval Medical Center Balboa in San Diego, California. He put himself in harm's way to save another. His selflessness and quick reaction showed his true heroism. While his medical bills will be covered, a great debt will be incurred with transportation, lodging, food, etc for the family.
Any monetary assistance that can be provided is greatly appreciated.

Please pray for MSgt Trujillo and his family. God bless!

January 5, 2018 - Update from Maria

My Sweetie is doing awesome .. today his tracheostomy has been reduced to a smaller size and they also added a speaker valve ,so he has started to make some noise but hasn’t been able to actually speak yet .. right now he just makes grunting sounds and is moving his mouth a little bit but we are hopeful that he will probably start talking some words soon. He continues to make baby steps forward.. I spoke with the case manager that is in charge of him today and she said , My Cutie Pie might not be in this hospital for a long time , he is impressing the physical therapist and the speech therapist with his progress.. so he is working hard and doing everything he can to follow their commands . He does gets worn out after his therapy sessions and goes right to sleep and he just rests for awhile . He is definitely a fighter and striving to get better.. Thank you so much for your prayers and support.

December 9, 2017 - Update from Maria Trujillo

What a beautiful Sunday(Okinawa is a day ahead) !!! God is good, he is listening to all our prayers. My Sweetheart is making progress every single day . Update from Gunny Figueroa , Good morning Maria both has really changed form yesterday. They are still trying to find out why his blood count is low so more test and X-rays. Your family is here at the hospital now. His swelling is getting better. The CT scan found no internal bleeding. Now it’s just letting him rest and slowly reduce the sedation medicine so he can slowly wake up and see how he reacts. Thank you so much for your prayers and support.

December 8, 2017 - Update from Maria Trujillo

Good Morning ! It’s a nice and pleasant Saturday , Here are today’s updates from Gunny Figueroa Morning Maria sorry for calling so early so I walked in this morning and noticed the Ventriculostomy was removed from skull last night , so no more cerebral spinal Fluid (CSF) drainage as of now. They are still waiting on the swelling to go down so they can determine if they want him sedated or awake. His blood count is low so they will run more test on him to make sure there is no internal bleeding. He had a fever last night and still has it now so they are also trying to see why he has a fever maybe and infection. Nothing as far a major surgery have been confirmed yet. Thank you so much for your continual prayers and support. I know our Heavenly Father is listening to our prayers. Maria Trujillo

December 5, 2017 - Update on Master Sergeant Trujillo

From Maria Trujillo:

New update from Gunny Figueroa (Marine Escort at Balboa Hospital)

I was about to text you. So he has no sever nerve damage. They are able to take his neck brace off today. They let him breath on his own for 20 minuets today and took him off the medicine. But his blood pressure wasn’t where it was supposed to be so he is back on the respirator. As far as his brain it’s still swollen but no bleeding so it was to early to see if he has any major brain damage. They did start the nutrition process so he is eating a little bit. They did put a splint on his right leg and left wrist. It’s going to be a slow process.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support.

December 29, 2017 - Update from Maria

My sweetie is doing so much better, breathing on his own and moving a lot . He still has an infection that he is getting antibiotics . He is getting some Physical Therapy on a daily basis . He continues to be more responsive and follow some commands. Today as I was leaving his room and told him ‘ I’ll see you later and I love you so much ‘ my sweetheart waved his hand and motion bye to me . He melts my heart because I feel the love he has for me and our children. He continues to make little steps forward toward his recovery. The fabulous nurses here at the Naval Medical Center San Diego are preparing him for the next step to move out of the ICU and get him in the rehabilitation center that is best suited for him. He also got his mustache and beard shaved . He is resting and looking good. Thank you so much for your prayers and support.

December 20, 2017 - Update from Maria

My Sweetheart continues with his itty bitty baby steps.. his vitals were good and the ventilator was removed and today he is breathing on his own. We held hands and Hector has a strong grip. He opens his eyes and turns to look for me when I call his name . I talk to him for awhile but then he gets very excited and he tries his best to open his mouth and say something. He really can’t speak at the moment though. We are still waiting on the cerebrospinal fluid culture results. The doctors are trying to find out if my sweetie has an infection that is causing his fever, and still waiting on the severity of the brain damage. Thank you so much for your continual prayers and support.

December 12, 2017 - Update from Maria

Good Morning ! It’s Wednesday on my side world .. Today’s Update from Gunny Figueroa As far as his EEG test they don’t see any major changes with each test. So neurologist team will keep monitoring daily. So it’s not getting worse and to early to diagnose anything severe. He did run a fever last night and they think it might be an infection in the lungs so they did not go with the PEG procedure till a later date. Once again I can’t thank you all enough for keeping my Sweetheart in your prayers and for all the support. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.

December 11, 2017 - Update from Maria

Good Morning ! Today’s update from Gunny Figueroa Just a heads up doctor will call you for consent on a Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is an endoscopic medical procedure which a tube is going into Hector’s stomach through the abdominal wall so they can feed him. They are also conducting an electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test that detects electrical activity in the brain. That we will get results in 24 hrs. Early today they have been letting him breathe with out the machine but it does bring his blood pressure up so they are also trying to keep that blood pressure balanced. Thank you so much for all your prayers and support.
